Hello Diving Duck supporters!
As we last reported to you, our 21 adorable ducklings have been growing in the Marsh Aviary exhibit. Of these, 15 will be released into the wild in the coming weeks.
Some will be released here at the Zoo; and some in other locations including the Hula Valley in the north of Israel.
The aim of this release is to test new GPS tracking devices as it is important for us to set up a more accurate system of tracking released individuals in the wild. One tracker will be fixed to one duck released in the Zoo’s central lake (the duck is free to fly away although all ducks released here have chosen to stay); and two individuals released in the Hula Valley will also be fitted with the new device.
Once our team decides on the effectiveness of the new device, we will plan to either acquire more or switch to a different device.
