All of us at Creating Hope International (CHI) and the Afghan Institute of Learning (AIL) want to thank our donors for your support of our “Bringing Green to Afghanistan”. This project is unique in that it is very different from the other projects AIL sponsors. Bringing flora back to Afghanistan is something that the Afghan people want but rarely have the resources to do. Trees and plants keep dust at bay and also help to cool the temperatures during the hot Afghan summers. They also bring beauty to a place ravaged by 30 years of continuous war. This beauty also creates a sense pride in one’s community, and as a result it brings people closer together.
In one of our learning centers in Herat, students planted over fifty saplings and many different varieties of flowers on the grounds of the institute. The students had a lot of fun doing it and enjoyed looking at the beautiful work they did. The flora, once fully in bloom, is sure to catch the eye of passers-by and possibly attract more people to our community-based learning centers. In March, a meeting was held in Herat regarding our learning centers. One participant in the meeting donated over 120 trees for use of several learning centers around the country. One of AIL’s biggest objectives is community involvement, and we are steadily getting more of it. We are making our communities greener, one at a time. Thank you all so much for your support!
