Since joining GlobalGiving, Proyecto Mayu has been tirelessly working to provide vital medical and dental care to underserved communities across Venezuela. In the past few months alone, we have visited three different communities, each with its own unique challenges and opportunities for impact.
Our first destination was the community of La Marroquina in Aragua state, a community we have been visiting consistently for the past four years. During our visit in November, we provided specialized medical and dental care to 483 individuals, conducting a total of 1288 consultations. Our volunteer team, comprised of specialists in pediatrics, internal medicine, gynecology, ophthalmology, parasitology, dermatology, pediatric dentistry, and odontosurgery, worked tirelessly for 30 hours to ensure each patient received comprehensive attention.
Returning to La Marroquina has been particularly gratifying for us, as we have witnessed the community's remarkable progress since our first visit. Testimonials from community members affirm the positive impact of our work, with expressions of gratitude such as "Mayu is an angel of God" and " We feel supported, we feel a lot of confidence in Proyecto Mayu, their work has resonated even outside our community." These sentiments underscore the significance of our ongoing commitment to La Marroquina.
In February, we expanded our reach to two new communities in Sucre state, Benitez and Arismendi, through local partnerships. This expansion allowed us to extend our services to more individuals in need and gather valuable data to better understand their specific needs and how we can continue supporting them in the future. In three days, we were able to attend 623 individuals, with a total of 1487 consultations. To this communities we added parasitology and dermatology as specialized consultations.
Looking ahead, we are already planning our next mission to yet another new destination. Our goal, in partnership with GlobalGiving, is to reach a total of five communities within nine months. These communities will serve as our bases for ongoing engagement, enabling us to make a lasting impact in Venezuela.
