By Staff | Proyecto Mayu
Between April and October 2024, Proyecto Mayu continued its mission of providing medical and dental care to underserved Venezuelan communities. Our work took us to two different locations, each with its own distinct needs. In every community, our team of volunteers and specialists brought essential care to those who might otherwise have gone without it, making a lasting impact along the way.
Our first visit was to La Marroquina, Yaracuy, a community we consider home. Over the years, we’ve built strong relationships with the people there, helping to control chronic conditions such as high blood pressure and parasitosis. From June 14 to 16, we treated 421 patients and provided 1,135 medical consultations in just 30 hours, with 40 volunteers and 11 specialists on hand. The gratitude of the community members, many of whom we’ve known for years, reminded us of the importance of continuity in care.
In August, we ventured into new terrain—the Andean community of Escaguey in Mérida state. This was the first time Proyecto Mayu reached this remote village, and for many volunteers, their first experience with Mayu’s mission. From August 23 to 26, we served 543 residents, conducting 1,497 medical consultations. The beauty of the Andes contrasted with the isolation of the community, making our work there both challenging and incredibly rewarding.
Looking ahead, we are excited for our upcoming visit to Chuspa in La Guaira state. Despite being close to Caracas, Chuspa faces significant challenges, and our visits bring much-needed hope and relief. On October 11, we will once again offer medical and dental care to this community that has welcomed us with open arms and great anticipation.
All of this has been made possible by the support of GlobalGiving and its allies. With your help, we’ve been able to touch the lives of hundreds of Venezuelans, providing quality healthcare to those in need. As we prepare for future projects, we remain deeply grateful for your continued support and for being part of this journey with us.
