In the midst of celebrating 10 years of providing free of charge medical and dental attention to vulnerable communities in our country, Proyecto Mayu reaches the hearts of La Marroquina (Yaracuy) and Escagüey (Mérida) in just two months.
In early July, a large group of volunteers and medical professionals undertook a journey to La Marroquina, Yaracuy State, one of the communities that has seen Mayu grow throughout our ten years of labor. The medical specialties included on this occasion were: Pediatrics, Gynecology, Oral surgery, Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, Bioanalysis, Dentistry, Endodontics, Parasitology, and Otorhinolaryngology.
We carried out a total of 1273 medical consultations, and developed a dental prosthesis project that impacted patients who lacked dental pieces. This improved not only their lifestyle, but most certainly their self-confidence and dental hygiene. Apart from that, we encouraged health education through interactive talks, where listeners could give their own feedback of what they had learned.
In August, our team traveled to Escagüey, Mérida State, a community that had suffered a natural disaster just weeks before our arrival, which made this entire experience even more impactful. We provided care for 715 patients, under the specialties of: Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Otorhinolaryngology, General Dentistry, Pediatric Dentistry, Endodontics, and Oral Surgery.
The most common diagnoses made in this community were high blood pressure, lower back pain, type II diabetes mellitus, and a diversity of dental issues like caries. As in all of our visits, we established informative talks on the most relevant health issues for this area of our country.
We are thrilled for our upcoming journeys of 2025! Our next stop will be Margarita Island, Nueva Esparta State for the first time ever, and we can't wait to see what this community will teach us!
As always, we are very grateful for your support and for wanting to be part of this very special project that beautifies the lives of so many Venezuelans!
