Kulika Uganda Project Progress Report
December 31st 2023
This report covers the period September – December 2023.
During this period, the project continued to run training activities, producing briquettes for safe, cheaper and clean energy, income generation and contribute to reduction of three cutting for fuel, thus contributing towards environmental protection.
During the quarter, the unit was improved (UV screen and poles replaced).
Progress towards adaptation.
1- Brooding chicks:
At least two client started using briquettes for brooding day-old chick. They joined the 6 women who were using briquettes for the same activity by close of the previous quarter.
Kulika Training Centre, on the other hand, continued to use briquettes brooding activities. Through this, Kulika Training centre continued to register between 40% - 43% saving on fuel for brooding comparing briquettes with charcoal.
2- Domestic cooking:
During the quarter Kulika Training centre registered at-least 5 new clients who appreciated and started using briquettes for domestic cooking.
Among the five, two make briquette balls by themselves although largely for domestic use.
Women who have been using briquettes over the past, continued doing so even this quarter. Therefore, cumulatively, the women using briquettes for domestic cooking grow to at-least 216.
During the period, two institutions started buying briquettes form Kulika Training centre. Cumulatively the number of institutions buying and using briquettes increased to four. These institutions mainly use briquettes to cook food for their workers.
Making and Marketing of Briquettes at the Kulika Training Centre
During the period, making and selling of briquettes continued. A total of 6,960.5kgs of briquettes were produce and sold compared to 4,007 kgs sold during the previous quarter. The quantity produced was sold to generate Ugx 6,960,500.
Training
Training Intern students
During this quarter Kulika Training centre continued with training activities in briquette making and use. A total of 267 student Youths (132 Male and 135 Female) from seventeen institutions received a one-day training on briquette making and use.
Extension Work among the Community
During the period, 6 women underwent training on briquette making and use. Of the six trained, one has started making her own briquettes for domestic use.
Way-forward for the Next quarter:
(a)To train at least 30 learners from various institutions of learning
(b)To sensitize at least more 20 women on briquettes use.
(c)To further improvements on the drying facility at Kulika Training centre leading to enhanced production capacity.
Appreciation and request:
Kulika Uganda continued to appreciate the generous support received from GlobalGiving. The funds received have continued to support training of communities on fuel saving technology through briquette making and use.
