Successful adoption stories always warm our hearts and bring such fulfillment knowing our rescued horses received a second chance at a good life with kind people. Getting to hear how they are doing in their new homes is priceless!
One such story is of Atlas and Meg. Atlas was brought to our rescue with his Mom, Rumor, as a 5 month old colt. Rumor was 9mos pregnant and had been dumped in a kill pen. A friend of the rescue saved them and they came to live at Charis. Fast forward to Altas being 3years old. Young horses are a lot of work and Atlas really needed an education, so we sent him to a well respected trainer where he received 30 days under saddle. Our trainer was helping us find a home for Atlas and she had a friend who fell in love with him. She adopted Atlas in the fall of 2021 and continued his training as well as exposing him to new adventures and travels.
Since being adopted by Megan here in Colorado, Atlas moved to New York for six months last year with Megan and now they are settled in Wyoming where Megan says "He's come a long way in his training, has pasture mates and is making friends with our new goat." This summer Megan has started him working cattle and getting used to the roping dummy. Megan says "Hopefully in a couple weeks he will be headed to the hills with me to gather cattle!" She goes on to say, "I try to treat every experience (with Atlas) as a learning opportunity...They are typically so willing when given the chance to figure things out if you've built trust with them. He's come so far, I am really proud of him! I sure am glad to get to be his human."
An update with the photos shared here from one of our adopters is music to our ears. We couldn't ask for a better outcome for Atlas and Meg.
