Project: Build a Global Language Centre in Rural Sri Lanka
Reporting Period: January to March 2026

We are pleased to share that the Global Language Centre project has now moved from planning into its initial construction phase.

During this reporting period, work has focused on preparing the site and beginning essential groundwork required before vertical construction can proceed.

Progress to Date

The following activities have commenced:

• Clearing and leveling of the construction area
• Initial excavation and grading of uneven terrain
• Construction of a reinforced retaining wall to stabilize slopes
• Digging of selected foundation trenches
• Placement of steel reinforcement for initial column footings

Due to the naturally elevated and uneven terrain, careful stabilization has been necessary to ensure long-term structural safety. The retaining wall and foundation reinforcements now in place form the early structural base of the centre.

It is important to note that this represents only part of the total groundwork and foundation requirements. Construction is being carried out in phases, aligned with available funding and technical sequencing. Additional excavation and foundation work remain before full vertical construction can begin.

Use of Funds

Funds raised to date are supporting:

• Site stabilization and earthworks
• Foundation excavation and reinforcement materials
• Skilled labour and technical supervision
• Logistics and material transport

Initial land preparation has been supported locally, allowing donor contributions to directly advance construction milestones.

Next Steps

In the coming phase, we aim to:

• Complete remaining foundation works
• Continue structural reinforcement
• Begin raising columns once foundations are secured
• Advance development in line with funding availability

March Little by Little Campaign (17–20 March)

We are pleased to share that this project will participate in GlobalGiving’s March Little by Little Campaign from March 17th to 20th.

During this campaign, eligible donations up to $50 per donor will be matched at 50%, while matching funds remain available. This presents a powerful opportunity to accelerate progress.

Campaign contributions will directly support completion of foundation works and structural materials for the first building phase.
