The proposed adolescent center in Mpigi district is a much-needed facility that aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for adolescents to develop their physical, emotional, and psychological well-being. The project is designed to address the growing needs of the adolescent population in the district, who currently lack access to such facilities.
Mpigi district is one of the fastest-growing districts in Uganda, with a rapidly expanding population of adolescents. However, the district lacks dedicated facilities that cater specifically to the needs of this age group. The absence of such facilities has resulted in increased vulnerability of adolescents to social and economic challenges, including early marriages, teenage pregnancies, and school dropout rates.
The adolescent center is essential to address the following needs:
1. Safety and Security: Adolescents need a safe space to socialize, learn, and play without fear of violence, harassment, or exploitation.
2. Health and Wellness: The center will provide access to reproductive health services, counseling, and mental health support.
3. Education and Empowerment: The center will offer life skills training, literacy programs, and vocational training to equip adolescents with skills for employment and entrepreneurship.
4. Recreation and Leisure: The center will provide a space for adolescents to engage in recreational activities, sports, and arts.
Project Site:
The project site is located on a 0.5-acre plot of land in the heart of Mpigi town, easily accessible by public transport and within walking distance from the local market.
Current Status:
One block of the center has been constructed, but it requires completion of plastering, tiling, and a perimeter wall for security purposes.
Project Objectives:
1. Complete plastering and tiling of the constructed block
2. Construct a perimeter wall around the center for security purposes
3. Equip the center with necessary furniture, equipment, and supplies
4. Recruit and train staff to manage the center
Implementation Plan:
1. Phase 1: Complete plastering and tiling (estimated duration: 2 weeks)
Estimated cost: UGX 10 million (approximately USD 2,700)
2. Phase 2: Construct perimeter wall (estimated duration: 4 weeks)
Estimated cost: UGX 15 million (approximately USD 4,050)
3. Phase 3: Equip the center and recruit/train staff (estimated duration: 6 weeks)
Estimated cost: UGX 20 million (approximately USD 5,400)
Total Estimated Cost: UGX 45 million (approximately USD 12,150)
Timeline:
The project is expected to be completed within a period of 12 weeks.
Conclusion:
The construction of the adolescent center in Mpigi district is a vital project that will provide a safe and supportive environment for adolescents to thrive. The project's objectives are clear, and we are confident that with adequate funding and support, we can complete the project within the proposed timeline.
