An Update on Bumi Sehat's Dulag Clinic

By Team Bumi Sehat | Project Leaders

Dear Friends,

In the Philippines, Bumi Sehat began serving devastated communities in 2013, in the aftermath of Category 5 Typhoon Haiyan. With all infrastructure destroyed, our midwives delivered babies in tents, holding space for life in the midst of great loss.

Today in Dulag, Leyte, our St. Theresa Maternity Clinic stands as a rainbow after the storm.

But the storms are not over.

As ocean temperatures rise, typhoons come more often and with greater strength. In November 2025, Typhoon Kalmaegi struck Leyte, forcing evacuations along the coast where our busy clinic stands. Midwife Theresa and her husband sent their children inland to safety, but they remained. They stayed because birth does not wait.

Through howling winds, broken windows, flooding rains, and loss of power, they kept the clinic open. They stayed so that no mother arriving in labor would find an empty door. Our clinic is small, set along the coastal highway—often the first and only place a mother in crisis can turn. Here, the most vulnerable mothers find care, even in the midst of chaos.

This is what Bumi Sehat does. We stay.

Our Impact in Dulag in 2025:

  • Prenatal checkups & maternal screenings: 351
  • Babies born onsite: 186
  • Newborn health screenings: 186
  • Family planning services: 106
  • Emergency hospital transports: 20

These figures reflect both community trust and critical unmet need.

This project is about preventing loss of care in a region that cannot afford it. Without a permanent facility, hundreds of women and babies each year risk losing access to essential services. With it, Bumi Sehat can continue to provide dignified, compassionate care where it is needed most.

Thank you for your continued support.

With Blessings & Gratitude,

Ibu Robin & Team Bumi Sehat
