Thank you for supporting us all through that time to make it safe for children to live in the anice place, when we started this programme in 2005, we barely had no donor to help, not untill 2009 when we received our first American intern.
The government of Uganda through the ministry of gender, labour and social development is currently discouraging orphanages and has ordered resettlement of children, Mountains of Hope resettled all the children it had,these children have been reunited with close relatives, several organisations have been set up to follow us with resettled children all over the country, however, our programm continues to support the education and the wellbeing of these children.
"Relying on institutional care would be like someone having an umbrella inside a leaking house to protect himself from rain. Institutional care is actually unnecessary because it constitutes the erosion of positive traditional values," says a comissioner in the ministry.
The certified child therapist argues that the real root causes behind the child being placed into the institutions are the ones which should be addressed rather than placing children into child institutions.
Mountains of Hope committee has there fore decided to use the available facility to establish a community school to enable children in this community to access better education, right now the nearest primary school is 5 kilometers away from this village, the school programme will support needy children and especially those that donot have any parent. This now means that your donations beginning from this month would go into the construction of additional class rooms for the community school, we are aso considering ending this very project and starting a new one on Globalgiving purposely to help raise funds for the school. Mountains of Hope is working on securing a license from the Uganda ministry of Education which allows one to run a school, according to the inspection reports from the Ministry of Education, this area is fit for a school, we hope that you will be able to continue support for this project to keep children in school.
