Skills training centre for 14-25 yr olds - Nairobi

Dear friends, esteemed supporters and change-makers,

We’re delighted to share with you that on 23rd February 2024, we celebrated the joyous launch of the new Seed of Hope training centre building in Dagoretti slum, Nairobi (as featured on KTN News)! The completion of this project symbolises a long-term investment in young people in Kenya and an exciting new chapter in the Seed of Hope programme, with more space to expand our courses and give more students the opportunity to gain valuable skills.

An enormous THANK YOU from all of us at Raising Futures Kenya to each and every one of you - together you raised $1,085.50 and contributed to making the dream of a permanent new vocational training centre become a reality! 

Together, having achieved this transformational goal, we are now deactivating this project. Your generous support has been instrumental in driving positive change in the lives of many young individuals, and it's with great pleasure that we share with you a final update on the progress of our Seed of Hope Nairobi project from the beginning of the year.

Seed of Hope Nairobi update:

• At the onset of the year, we enrolled 149 students, including 77 girls, 1 in 5 of whom were young mothers in our commitment to promote inclusivity and provide opportunities for all. We’re also excited to have enrolled 6 girls in the Motor Vehicle Mechanics course; traditionally a male-dominated field.
• In February, combined with the launch ceremony, we celebrated the graduation of 276 Seed of Hope Nairobi students from the previous year's cohorts. Notably, half of these graduates were girls, including young mothers. Their successful completion of the training program demonstrates their commitment to gaining skills for self-reliance and the benefit of Seed of Hope’s targeted support - such as counselling, life skills, mentoring, and childcare vouchers, and guidance they need to succeed. 
• Following their training, many graduates were placed in internships, where a number of them have since secured employment and are earning sustainable incomes. This tangible outcome underscores the effectiveness of our vocational training program in equipping students with valuable skills for the workforce.

The vocational training we provide is holistic in nature, equipping students with not only technical skills but also instilling resilience to overcome obstacles they may face in their lives. We are more committed than ever to meet increased demand for our free Seed of Hope training and support. Over the last 5 years, we have scaled the number of Seed of Hope student places 5 times over, and through 2024 we aim to support 1,060 young people across our three centres in total.
