Recently a woman who has just moved to San Juan del Sur from the United States, Christine Kennedy, came to the Fundación A. Jean Brugger office with an offer: she wanted to give intermediate English classes and was looking for a space.
The ability to speak English provides many job opportunities in Nicaragua, and there are not many options to study at an intermediate level in this area. Ms. Kennedy has been an English as a Second Language teacher for many years, and now that she has retired, wants to continue helping people as a volunteer.
The classes began in early October, 2023, are taking place in our patio. Some of our scholarship students and graduates are taking advantage of this opportunity. There is some shelter from the rain and sun provided by our awning, but it is a shame that we don’t have better conditions to offer this generous teacher.
This is a great example of why we want to build the auditorium: to provide a space not only for our student meetings, but as a community resource to provide educational opportunities to the community at large.
