The current war revealed the vulnerability of our preschool children with disabilities who rely on our rehabilitative early childhood center in Ashkelon. The current facilities that serve as our center—four stopgap repurposed private homes—are not equipped to protect and nurture them as they deserve. During the first three months of the conflict, when thousands of rockets were launched into Ashkelon, our children could not attend the center due to the lack of adequate protection. This left them without their critical therapeutic intervention and caused significant developmental setbacks. Even before the war, the small rooms, many stairs, and overcrowded classrooms made it difficult for the children with their equipment to navigate and for us to provide the optimal care. Ashkelon is the fastest growing city in Israel. Some children are even waiting at home for daycare placements due to the overwhelming demand.
Given these challenges, we are urgently fundraising to build a new, state-of-the-art, fortified early childhood center in Ashkelon. This new facility will not only be a place of safety and refuge but will provide the highest quality rehabilitative and educational care to enrich and ensure the best developmental trajectories for hundreds of children with disabilities for many years to come.
We are already 60% of the way to our fundraising goal, with $1,361,341 USD still needed. Major donors will be recognized on the building’s walls and rooms—a lasting tribute to their partnership. Attached, please find more information on the current state of our Ashkelon early childhood facilities and the fortified center we aim to build. We hope you will consider partnering with us in this crucial endeavor. Together, we can create a sanctuary for these precious children, who are undoubtedly among the most vulnerable in Israel.
