Creating Lasting Change with Bahamian NGOs

By Matthew Aubry | Executive Director

ORG Bahamas continues to forge ahead, strengthening the nonprofit ecosystem across The Bahamas. Guided by our mission to build a more transparent, accountable, and participatory society, ORG continues to help NGOs, faith-based organizations (FBOs), and community groups increase their impact, sustainability, and collaboration nationwide.

Building the Network: Map4Good Bahamas

One of the most significant achievements this year has been the expansion of Map4Good Bahamas—a groundbreaking national mapping and data platform developed to connect and strengthen local NGOs and FBOs.
To date, over 500 organizations have been engaged through the initiative, contributing data, sharing best practices, and accessing training resources. This growing network helps make the nonprofit sector more visible, better coordinated, and equipped to respond collectively to national challenges such as climate change, disaster recovery, and social inequity.

Cross-Sector Collaboration: The UN SDG Partnership Forum

ORG recently co-hosted the United Nations SDG Partnership Forum, bringing together over 30 Bahamian nonprofits alongside leaders from government, the private sector, and international organizations. The forum focused on aligning local initiatives with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and exploring pathways for multi-sector collaboration.
This partnership demonstrates ORG’s unique role as a bridge between civil society and national policymaking, ensuring that the voices of grassroots organizations are heard in shaping The Bahamas’ sustainable development agenda.

Strengthening Disaster and Community Resilience

ORG is also advancing efforts to integrate local nonprofits into the National Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Framework through active participation in the National Non-Governmental Consultative Committee (NGCC). By helping define the roles and coordination protocols for NGOs during emergencies, ORG is contributing to a more resilient and better-prepared national response system.

Training the Next Generation of Nonprofit Leaders

Through a partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, ORG recently delivered specialized capacity-building workshops for youth-led organizations, focusing on networking, collaborative fundraising, and project design. These sessions equip emerging leaders with the tools to grow their impact while fostering stronger networks across islands and sectors.

What’s Next

In the coming months, ORG will expand Map4Good Bahamas by going directly into communities to register and support even more local groups. We will also launch the fourth round of our NPO Cluster Capacity-Building Training Series, focusing on nonprofits working in environmental protection, disaster resilience, and social development.
These activities will continue to build a stronger, more connected, and impactful civil society—ensuring that Bahamian NGOs have the tools, visibility, and partnerships needed to drive change at every level.

Conclusion

ORG Bahamas remains deeply grateful to GloballGiving and and its community for providing a space to share our story and progress. Your encouragement continues to motivate our small team to help local organizations grow, collaborate, and lead—strengthening the foundations of democracy, resilience, and inclusive development in The Bahamas.
