Across The Bahamas, nonprofit and faith-based organizations quietly form the backbone of many communities. They mentor young people, provide counseling and crisis support, feed families in need, and create spaces where people can find belonging and hope. Yet many of these groups operate with limited resources and little access to the training or networks that can help them grow their impact.
This quarter, ORG Bahamas continued its work to strengthen these organizations through capacity-building initiatives focused on leadership, organizational development, communications, and fundraising. Our goal is simple: help community organizations unlock their full potential for social good.
One of the most exciting developments this quarter was the launch of “Map4Good on Da Road.” Led by ORG’s Map4Good Project Manager, Vanessa Bethel, this initiative takes ORG’s national nonprofit mapping project directly into communities across the islands. Instead of waiting for organizations to come to us, we are bringing Map4Good to them.
As Vanessa shared during the outreach, one of the most rewarding parts of the work is meeting the people behind the missions. Many nonprofits and faith-based groups are deeply focused on serving their communities every day and may not have the time or capacity to connect with new initiatives. By visiting them directly, ORG is helping ensure their work becomes more visible, connected, and part of a stronger national network of service.
Faith-based organizations in particular play a vital role in Bahamian society. They provide spiritual guidance, youth mentorship, and support for families navigating difficult moments. Map4Good recognizes that spiritual care is community care, and when these organizations are visible and connected, national resilience grows stronger.
ORG also hosted a Community of Practice Pilot Workshop at IDB House, bringing together local environmental conservation organizations. The gathering created an open space for community leaders to share experiences, discuss challenges, and learn from one another. Participants explored practical tools and collaborative approaches to strengthen their missions and expand their impact.
Additionally, ORG delivered capacity-building training for youth-led community organizations, helping young leaders strengthen their communication, leadership, and organizational development skills.
Together, these efforts are helping build a stronger network of organizations working across The Bahamas. When community groups are supported, connected, and equipped with the right tools, their ability to serve others grows—and so does the resilience of the nation.
In the months ahead, ORG looks forward to expanding Map4Good outreach and continuing to create spaces where nonprofit and faith-based leaders can learn, collaborate, and strengthen the communities they serve.
