Mrs. María is originally from Chichicastenango, she used to live with her husband and her son. Unfortunately, they died instantly in a traffic accident when a truck impacted the vehicle in which both were driving. This was not only an irreparable emotional impact for Mrs. María as she had lost her complete family; if not that part of his life itself had been lost.
As a result of this situation, the lady decided to sell all her belongings, and decided to drinking alcohol, which she had as a result of pain and despair for many years; this took her to live on the street and was hopeless.
Mrs. María arrived one day in Antigua Guatemala in order to get away from the memories and the pain she felt, and had as objective, to find some work or some economic activity that would help her to subsist, but she had the problem of addiction to alcohol. One day, she heard from Albergue Santa Madre, a program of Nuestros Ahijados, where she was sheltered and received, she was referred to a Center for the rehabilitation of people with alcoholism problems, where she was rehabilitated and now she is dedicated to work as a housemaid in different homes or selling tortillas.
Despite the family and material loss that this woman has suffered, she has not only rehabilitated herself from her alcoholism, but also has the desire to live and fight for her daily life.
