In the quiet hillside community of El Hato, the Icajoc García family once felt safe in their small home. But one terrible day, that sense of security was shattered when an earthquake struck - a moment that would change their lives forever.
As the ground began to shake, the hillside above their home started to crumble. Within seconds, tons of earth and stone came crashing down. The family heard the terrifying sound of the earth splitting apart - and that sound gave them just enough warning to run outside.
They escaped with their lives. But when the shaking stopped, their home - the place where they had celebrated birthdays, shared meals, and built memories - was gone. Buried under the hillside.
The loss was overwhelming. Everything they had worked for was gone in an instant. Yet even in that devastation, the Icajoc García family refused to give up.
With courage and quiet strength, they began again. Day after day, they worked to clear away debris, one shovelful at a time. They gathered salvaged materials, planted new foundations, and started to rebuild - not just walls, but hope.
When The GOD’S CHILD Project learned of their story, we knew we had to help. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and the dedication of our volunteer builders, a new home was constructed for the Icajoc García family - a strong, safe, and dignified space
The day the family stepped into their new home, tears turned to smiles, and fear gave way to relief. For the first time since the earthquake, they could rest knowing they were safe again.
Their story is one of resilience and love, a testament to the power of family and faith. Each sunrise brought new determination: to give their children safety, stability, and a future free from fear.
With the support of The GOD’S CHILD Project and compassionate donors like you, families like the Icajoc Garcías are not alone in starting over. Your generosity helps provide emergency relief, safe housing, and long-term stability for those who have lost everything.
Every nail, every brick, every roof beam built with your help is more than construction - it’s a promise that families in crisis can begin again.
The Icajoc García family’s courage reminds us that even when the ground shakes beneath us, hope can still stand strong. And thanks to your support, that hope is rebuilding homes and lives.
