When Olga and Jorge tucked their three children into bed each night, they worried about more than most parents should.
Their small home, built from metal sheets, offered little protection from the elements.
Rain seeped inside. Strong winds rattled the walls. The family did their best to create a safe and loving environment for their children - Job (9), Genesis (7), and Gabriel (3) - but poverty often forced them to choose between immediate needs and long-term security.
Like so many parents, Olga and Jorge shared a simple dream: a safe place where their children could sleep, learn, and grow.
That dream became reality in May 2026.
A ServiceTeam from McCallie traveled to Guatemala and partnered with The GOD'S CHILD Project and Asociación Nuestros Ahijados (ANA) to help build a new home for the family.
What followed was much more than a construction project. It was a powerful reminder of what can happen when people from different backgrounds come together with a shared purpose.
For three days, volunteers worked alongside local leaders and community members, mixing concrete, raising walls, and transforming an empty space into something extraordinary. As the home took shape, so did friendships. Laughter crossed language barriers. Stories were shared. Strangers became friends.
By the end of the week, the family stood in front of a home they never imagined would be possible.
For Olga and Jorge, the house represents peace of mind and the opportunity to focus on building a brighter future for their children. For Job, Genesis, and Gabriel, it means a safer place to sleep, study, and dream about tomorrow.
But perhaps the greatest gift was something that cannot be measured in bricks or concrete.
It was hope.
Hope that their children will grow up healthier.
Hope that tomorrow can be better than today.
Hope that they are not alone.
Because of generous donors like you, families in Guatemala are receiving more than houses. They are receiving dignity, stability, and the opportunity to build a better future.
Thank you for making stories like Olga and Jorge's possible. Every gift helps transform lives, strengthen families, and break the bitter chains of poverty - one home at a time.
