Whenever a Service Team visits us, they all come with huge expectations, an illusion to help others and the desire to give as much as they can. We can see it in that spark shown in their eyes, and this huge smile drawn in their faces; still, none of this is compared with the face of someone whose life has just been changed by one of these people. Silvia Maricruz Sagche was one of them.
Silvia’s life has been quite challenging, She got married at a very young age and had no academic background since her parents decided it was more important for her to help out with house chores than studying. Her life turned completely upside down recently, her husband died in an accident leaving Silvia and her two daughters Estefany and Noelia alone and unprotected.
Silvia had nowhere to go, so she was staying at her parents’ house. Encouraged by the need, she started working as a housekeeper but her income barely pays for food. It was then when she decided to approach Asociación Nuestros Ahijados and ask for help. A little time passed when good news arrived to her, They were building a brand new house for her and her daughters. Sebestas team was the chosen one to carry out this task and provide a new home to them.
Three days of hard work under sun and rain made everything happen, Silvia kept looking amazed and as she told us, thanked God every second for this blessing arriving to her family.
The time had come and in a rainy Thursday afternoon the house was set and ready to be officially handed. The whole team gathered inside of the house, along with the service team leaders and exchanged words of gratefulness, joy and blessings with Silvia and her daughters. Little Noemi’s eyes opened wide when two beautiful dolls were handed from volunteers as a present to start “a new life” and Silvia’s words were completely forgotten and replaced by tears of happiness when she finally realized they had a place for them to feel comfortable and safe.
Tools were packed and volunteers got in the truck in order to come back from an adventure which turned out to be a blessing for a single mother and her two daughters. Looking back will remind them forever how a few days trip and the desire to make a difference changed the present and future of not one but three lives of women that will never forget them.
