Sometimes it helps to cooperate. DARE Network and Right to Play (a Canadian-based International NGO) joined forces to provide training and just some downright fun in Mae La Refugee camp.
Because of the stark increase in suicide rates and substance abuse, we decided that working together would have more of an impact on the youth at risk. To that end DARE Network and Right to Play staff set out strategies to reach these young people.
As a result of the training our teams go out together throughout the camp sharing information about drugs and alcohol and engaging youth in our programs. The more youth we can involve the more we create purpose and the more our young people understand about how drugs and alcohol can harm more than help.
We have reached over 5000 young people this year by playing together.
