Mitrovica Rock School is a daily inter-ethnic rock music program that connects young musicians from both sides of the ethnically divided city of Mitrovica, Kosovo. Students at the school form ethnically mixed bands who bridge language, cultural and religious barriers to do what they love most: write and play their own pop and rock songs.
Because of the ethnic divide and the tenuous security situation in Mitrovica, the school operates from two branches - one on either side of town. When bands come together to write and rehearse their original music, half of the band needs to come from the other side. They can do so safely because school leaders drive them back and forth.
We launched this campaign because the Mitrovica Rock School car is in serious need of repair and is not expected to be able to last much longer. Unfortunately we were not able to raise enough funds to cover the cost of a "new" (second-hand) car.
Nevertheless, the campaign raised USD 822, generously donated by friends of the school - many of whom have visited the school in the past and know its impact first-hand. This donations were matched by the International Club of Pristina, which made a direct donation of EUR 1,000 to the Mitrovica Rock School.
With these funds, the Rock School will be able to undertake any significant repairs that come up for the next period of time, and hopefully be able to extend the life of their current car by another year or two (or three).
Many thanks for your generous support!
