Mitrovica Rock School is a daily inter-ethnic rock music program that connects young musicians from both sides of the ethnically divided city of Mitrovica, Kosovo. Students at the school form ethnically mixed bands who bridge language, cultural and religious barriers to do what they love most: write and play their own pop and rock songs.
Because of the ethnic divide and the tenuous security situation in Mitrovica, the school operates from two branches - one on either side of town. When bands come together to write and rehearse their original music, half of the band needs to come from the other side. They can do so safely because school leaders drive them back and forth.
We launched this campaign because the Mitrovica Rock School car is in serious need of repair and is not expected to be able to last much longer.
In our last report, we wrote that the donations received would be used for repairs of our current car, as we were unable to reach our full goal. We are happy to inform you that we have found a way to buy a "new" (second-hand) car after all: by combining the funds raised through GlobalGiving, the EUR 1,000 donation from International Club of Pristina, the proceeds from the sale of the old car, and supplementing some of our general funding.
With these funds, Mitrovica Rock School bands will soon be able to travel to the other side in a safe, well-funcitoning car.
Many thanks for your generous support!
