Dear Supporters,
During this last quarter GVI Cambodia is incredibly proud to have completed a project that was directly asked for by our local community. We were able to provide the local village of Cheung Kok with a vital resource to help improve the skills of our students & various other community members.
At the end of 2019 we went to our local partners to see what other projects they had that we could help with. After speaking and listening to the needs of the young girls that we teach in Cheung Kok, a local Eco Village, an issue came up. The girls we work with don’t have easy access to computers or IT lessons at school, which are essential skills to help open up their opportunities in the modern world. We then decided that over Christmas we could have a fundraiser that would help overcome this issue, with the aim to buy a few laptops to build up the girls’ skill base, help empower them and reach their full potential. In a technology reliant world this is a very important skill for them to develop.
The fundraiser was a great success and this quarter we went to the capital city of Phnom Penh and we were able to purchase 3 laptops for our students. We have been informed that the laptops will not only benefit our students but will help the whole village as they will be accessible for anyone who wished to use them. Our volunteers also created a brilliant guide on the basic use of a computer which we gave to them alongside the laptops. As we have gifted the laptops to the village the impact will be long term and sustainable as they will be able to enhance their skills continually without our support. Alongside supporting the community we have also worked towards the SDG’s; 1. No Poverty, 4.Quality Education, 5.Gender Equality, 8.Decent Work & Economic Growth, 10.Reduced Inequalities.
We’re so grateful for everyone’s support to make computer literacy a reality for Cheung Kok. It’s incredible to know that no matter where you are in the world you can create sustainable and positive impact to those in need. Be proud of what you’ve helped us at GVI Cambodia achieve, because we certainly are!
As we look towards our future in Siem Reap, we know that similar projects like this will greatly impact the community. We have already been asked by 2 of our new partners for help developing computer literacy with their students, so we are very excited to know that we have achieved this in Kampong Cham and can definitely do the same in Siem Reap! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the generosity everyone has already given, but please do continue to support us as we can continue to achieve so much together!
With Gratitude,
Cambodia Classrooms
