Children return to school - because we cared when they were not!

By patricia wilkins | Executive Director

When we started this program in the year 2000, we were so saddened by the number of children we sponsored who actually completed a school year.  The diappointment increased, when we witnessed chidlren who did complete a school year, however didnt return for the new academic year.

After much research, and discussion we learned so many factors BIG and SMALL played a major role in keeping children from school.

  • lack of intererest
  • poor performance- and lack of confidence that they can do better
  • children returning to the work force during long vacations, and getting caught up
  • family loosing interest in having child eduated
  • girls become mothers during long school breaks
  • children are trafficked during long breaks to earn family an income.

For 22 years, BASICS, has provided a SAFE HAVEN for children during long holidays, and our dream to make a residental have- in form of a sleep away camp- is soon to be a reality

BUT WE need your help
