We are on our way to giving children the opportunity to be children. As of date , we have raised $1800, and yes it seems a far cry from what we need-- but we are on our way-- and we say thank you to all those that have given so far.
We purchased the 8 acres of land, to expand out exisiting program; which is host to our vacation program for the last 20 years. Thats right- we have been at this for a long time- making an impact in areas we know are necessary.
Children in underserved, resource poor communities, dont have many options, choices or opportunities to be children. Many drop out of school during long breaks, because they are forced to work or engage in activities which halters there life.
At BASICS we have provided children the OPPORTUNITY- to play, laugh- and LIVE.
Camp Aklowah, will give children the opportunity that I was given over 50 years ago. - the sleep away camp experience- where I learned to swim, play othello, checkers, and baseball. But ultimately it was removing me from streets, that offered me easy access to drugs, crime and teenage pregnacy.
I simply want to give this to hundred, and thousands of children- -
