As we approach the Christmas holiday, thousand of children will be out of school for weeks or even months, as the school calendar will vacate students in December. As many children around the world, are happy for this break, as it means Christmas trees, lights and a visit from Father Christmas- there are hundreds of children in Chorkor - who wont be afforded this yearly tradition.
Children in Chorkor, and communities alike will be faced with the challenges most children from improvised homes face.
Children are often forced to enter the work force , working in markets, hauling goods, or entering marriage.
So Far , this year- BASICS has held 2 vacation camps in addtion to the afterschool afternoons- which offers an ALTERNATIVE- - a safe haven- for children when schools are closed.
So as we approach the Christmas break- we in hopes that we would have reached out goal, so we can continue to protect, but unfortunately i cant report that- and we will take a break .
Our next break is April 2024- and we hope to break ground on the new site- - to ensure all children are SAFE.
