Closing Doors, Opening Futures: Progress at Camp Aklowah

As we approach the end of the year, we are celebrating a meaningful milestone at Camp Aklowah: the installation of doors on several of our key buildings. This is more than a construction update—it is a symbol of safety, completion, and progress toward opening Ghana’s first purpose-built experiential youth camp.

The act of “closing doors” signals a major shift. Our structures are moving from open frameworks to secure, functional spaces ready to serve children during school holidays, leadership sessions, and community programs.

Your support continues to fuel this progress.

Progress Made This Season

This season brought tangible movement toward completing Aklowah’s core facilities. Key achievements include:

  • Installation of doors on the caretaker house, washroom buildings, and learning spaces

  • Ongoing interior and exterior finishing for the two Tech Labs, designed for digital literacy and hands-on learning

  • Upgrades to the three palaver huts, which will serve as spaces for group activities, discussions, and skills training

  • Continued improvement of the washroom facilities to ensure safety and hygiene

  • Pathway and grounds work to connect activity areas and improve accessibility

  • Engagement of local labour, ensuring Aklowah continues to strengthen the surrounding community

These milestones bring us closer to opening the camp for small pilot groups in the near future.

Why This Matters

Aklowah is being built intentionally to serve children from underserved communities by offering:

  • Technology exposure through our two dedicated tech labs

  • Safe gathering and learning spaces through the three palaver huts

  • Reliable washroom access with improved sanitation

  • A secure base of operations through a fully fitted caretaker house

  • Outdoor experiential learning areas for agriculture, nature, sports, and leadership development

By installing doors and securing these structures, we are creating safe, protected, and functional environments for year-round youth development.

Community Impact

Aklowah continues to support the Shai Hills community through local employment. Carpenters, masons, technicians, labourers, and artisans from nearby communities have contributed their skills to this phase of the project. The ongoing construction provides jobs, income, training opportunities, and long-term local engagement.

Looking Ahead

In the coming months, our next priorities include:

  • Completing windows and final fittings across all buildings

  • Finishing painting, flooring, and electrical work in the tech labs

  • Installing additional water storage and sanitation systems

  • Furnishing the palaver huts and caretaker house

  • Preparing outdoor areas for structured holiday and weekend programs

With your continued support, Aklowah will evolve from a construction zone into a fully active youth development space.

Thank You

Thank you for standing with us as we build Aklowah, one structure at a time. The doors installed today will open new opportunities for thousands of children in the years ahead.

Your support is helping shape a space where young people will learn, explore, build confidence, and discover their potential.

With gratitude,
