Camp Fearless: Empowering kids and teens living with IBD!
In October 2024, CCA ran its first Camp Fearless since pre-pandemic. More than a dozen young people living with IBD came from across the country to attend the camp, which took place on the beautiful Morning Peninsula in Victoria.
Tailored for 12 - 17 year olds, these teens were supported by an IBD nurse, dietician, councillor, plus CCA staff and volunteers.
Campers spent the weekend being challenged physically and mentally. Outdoor adventure activities such as the giant swing and tree-top ropes course challenged campers physical fearlessness. Campers were also challenge to be fearless in sharing their experiences, thoughts and feelings about living with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
The camp is designed to help teens to develop lasting support relationships with peers, learn self-management strategies, and build confidence in managing their IBD as they navigate the path to becoming an adult. But most of all, it is about having fun and just letting them just be kids for a while.
The camp was a huge success, with lots of laughs and many friendships formed and promises to keep in touch.
Camp Fearless will be back in 2025, and we look forward to supporting more teenagers with IBD in their journey to manage their disease and make life-long friends.
