The 2025 Camp Fearless in Sydney attracted 20 young people from NSW, QLD, ACT, and SA. Eighteen participants (8 boys and 10 girls) attended the camp, while two registrants cancelled due to health reasons. The two participants who were unable to attend were sent a souvenir camp t-shirt with messages and signatures from all the young people at the camp and were invited to attend in 2026. One of the camp’s main aims, aside from providing opportunities for campers to connect with peers, is to help them feel more confident in managing their IBD symptoms and care. Impressively, 94% of attendees reported increased confidence and also indicated that meeting others helped address feelings of isolation.
All participants (100%) reported that the camp environment, including interactions with CCA staff and volunteers, felt safe and supportive. The camp also provides a safe and welcoming space for campers to connect with mentors and the IBD nurse, and to learn more about CCA’s work, mission, and support programs for young people and young adults, such as YEP! Online and the Young Adult Support (YAS) program. This component of the camp is especially valuable for older campers who are navigating the transition from paediatric to adult healthcare systems.
Parents of young people with IBD were also beneficiaries through education, peer connection and support. Sixteen parents attended a family lunch where there was discussion with an IBD nurse and peer parents about living and parenting with IBD.
