Cancer children receive Toys of Hope

Children together for Toy party

Dear Friends,

Asia America Initiative thanks you for donating to our ongoing project to help children cope with cancer at the House of Hope in Davao, Philippines.

AAI volunteers and House of Hope staff recently treated the children to a day of happiness, snacks, toys, books, and play. We are delighted to see more children able to participate together during parties, following years of necessary Covid19 protocols. It is so meaningful for them to just "be children" and feel the friendship and hear the laughter of other children.

Our partner hospitals provide medication free of charge to children fighting cancer. AAI complements their mission by providing nutritional and educational support. We especially try to instill a sense of life through our toy giving. This is especially important for young children who need care and guidance but older children and teenagers benefit as well from our related artistic programs. Often, these children whose parents are largely indigent farm laborers, have never had a toy of their own.  The cuddly stuffed animals become a touchstone of support as they go through their medical treatments.

Previous donors are requesting information about our Christmas parties and toy giving for the children, so we are providing links for our microprojects on GlobalGiving. Not all of the children can attend the parties but we give toys to every child who can receive one. We are expecting a large turnout this year thankfully.
