We’ve been working hard to provide a great quality Care and Repair service to older people in our local communities. In 2015, we provided over 28,000 DIY jobs for older people nationwide. The numbers speak for themselves, but here’s what one client, Sally in North Dublin, told us;
“I was widowed at a very young age and left on my own with 2 young sons. As they got older, we realised that they both had a genetic disorder and unfortunately lost their sight. I was always able to do minor jobs at home simply because I had no other choice, I had to get on with it. Over the last number of years my own health has begun to suffer and I am no longer able to carry out these small jobs and had no one to help me. I heard about Care and Repair at mass, finding the service has been like winning the lotto. It’s wonderful to know that there is someone at the end of the phone willing to come out to help me, nothing is ever too much trouble”
Welcome to Athy C&R
Care and Repair Athy are up and running with the super efficient Flo O’Connor as their ‘girl Friday’. Flo has been taking calls, designating the jobs and also working on promoting the programme throughout the town along. I would like to welcome Flo, Gerry, Dave and all of the team to the Care and Repair Family and wish them the very best of luck. I look forward to updates (with some photos J) over the coming months!!
Belmullet gets some wheels!!
January was a very exciting month for C&R Belmullet as it saw the official launch of the new van at Áras Inis Gluaire and I was delighted to be asked to take part.
Invited along were some of their valued Care & Repair clients who were also joined by the Public Health Nurses and Anne Padden, the Supervisor of RSS Home Care Services whom they have a great working relationship with and receive referrals for assistance from. Also in attendance were their dedicated team of Care & Repair volunteers, led by Community Officer & Coordinator of the Erris Care & Repair Service, Lorraine Wilson.
The new van will enable the team to deliver the Erris Care & Repair Service at a higher level and reach out to their most isolated clients. They currently make regular visits to older people across every parish in Erris and now they can continue the expansion and delivery of this much needed service in the wider community. Here are some photos of the big day!!
