Compassion Across Borders: Rohingya Refugees

Extending Compassion Across Borders:

Relief for Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh

Dear Esteemed Donors,

The plight of the Rohingya Muslim refugees remains one of the gravest humanitarian crises of our time. Forced to flee their homes in Myanmar due to persecution and violence, more than a million Rohingya men, women, and children now live in overcrowded camps in Bangladesh, facing daily struggles for survival. The camps are marked by poverty, inadequate shelter, limited access to healthcare, and a constant scarcity of safe drinking water. Despite international attention, their condition remains fragile, with many families depending entirely on humanitarian support to meet even the most basic needs.

CHCS Relief Efforts in 2024

In 2024, the Customs Health Care Society (CHCS) dispatched dedicated teams to the refugee camps, where we:

  • Distributed food packages containing rice, lentils, oil, and other essentials to help families meet their nutritional needs.
  • Provided clothing and blankets to protect vulnerable families especially children and the elderly from harsh seasonal conditions.
  • Supplied medicines and health kits, supporting mobile clinics and ensuring treatment for common illnesses such as respiratory infections, diarrhea, and skin diseases.
  • Brought moments of joy by distributing toys to children, reminding them that despite the hardships, they are not forgotten.
  • Installed hand pumps in critical areas, providing safe drinking water to reduce the risk of waterborne diseases such as cholera and dysentery.

These interventions, though modest compared to the scale of need, offered immediate relief and dignity to thousands who had lost everything.

Renewed Commitment in 2025

As we move through 2025, CHCS is determined to sustain and expand these efforts. With your continued generosity, we aim to:

  1. Expand Food Distribution Increase the reach of dry ration packs to cover more families at risk of malnutrition.
  2. Strengthen Medical Support Equip refugee clinics with essential medicines, hygiene kits, and maternal health supplies to protect the most vulnerable groups—women and children.
  3. Ensure Clean Water Access Install additional hand pumps, maintain existing ones, and provide hygiene education to improve long-term community health.
  4. Enhance Daily Living Conditions Continue providing clothing, blankets, and protective gear against seasonal extremes, while expanding distribution of toys and educational materials for children.

Why Your Support Matters

Every contribution, no matter how small, translates into food for a hungry family, medicine for a sick child, or clean water for an entire settlement. For people who have lost their homeland, possessions, and sense of security, your compassion offers a lifeline of survival and hope.

The Rohingya refugees live with uncertainty about their future, but through your support, we can assure them that the world has not abandoned them. Together, we can uphold their dignity, alleviate their suffering, and keep their hope alive.

With sincere gratitude,

Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah
