By Nigel Sampson | HANDS AROUND THE WORLD Paluoc Project Co-ordinator
Paluoc is still at a very early, exciting but also frustrating stage. The building is up and operational at a basic level but so far with very limited tools and no workbenches. The tools are on their way and will arrive sometime very soon (October 2011). In the meantime the instructor is doing his best with very limited resources – a not uncommon experience in Africa. There are currently only a couple of trainees at the centre but once the tools arrive they will be recruiting up to 10 more. The need is great.
Paluoc is also seeking contracts for carpentry jobs – once the tools arrive they will be able to forge ahead. The trainees are full of hope. Already they are saying that once they have been trained and have some experience they would like to set up similar workshops to help others like themselves.
They are in need of funding to buy timber for the trainees to work on to help improve their skills.
