CATALYST provides training, mentoring and resources to our scholars that go beyond the scope of their academic studies. In November 2022 and January 2023, LOCAM invited 3 experts from the National Employment Agency (NEA)—Mr. Chhaom Sokhoeun, President of the National Employment Agency (NEA); Ms. Sre EngNeang, President of the Project Management Office; and Mr. Seang Sokhon, President of the Siem Reap Job Centre, to do an orientation about how to write a CV and Cover Letter as well as how to prepare for a job interview to our CATALYST scholars in Phnom Penh City and Siem Reap Province, respectively.
The workshop was designed to help scholars prepare for their future career plans, job preparation and interviews. Activities included team building games, lessons and demonstrations, discussions on interview preparation techniques, and role-playing for job interviews. There were also group discussions on what it means to being successful in a career. The students were interested in each lesson and asked the speakers many questions both on practical aspects of CV writing and interviews and also on topics of mindset and career paths.
Hang is in her third year of Public Administration at the University of Southeast Asia. She shared her thoughts upon completing the workshop.
“This workshop taught me so much about how to write a CV and cover letter. I never knew anything about these, and since I am about to graduate soon, I used to feel very worried if I could find myself a job or not after I graduated. Thanks to this workshop, I learned so much about the different ways and places we can find a job and what we can do to land the job of our dreams. Moreover, in order for us to land that job, we must first strengthen our skills and try to build more networks. It is also important for us to maintain a good relationship with people around us and learn about solidarity because having a strong team spirit is very important if we want to work well with other people.
I am so happy and grateful for all of the lessons I learned from this workshop. Thank you to Lotus Outreach Cambodia for organizing this workshop as well as the staffs of NEA for the training and insightful information. I will apply everything I learned from this training to my future endeavors and use this knowledge to help my friends and relatives.”
