By Giselle Bonilla | Project Leader
Centro Bonilla started a new project focused on donations that will meet the physical needs of our communities. At Centro Bonilla we aim to support our communities mental, emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing. We had our first donations of food (groceries) in September and donations of clothes in November of last year. We were able to support 30 families in total from the community of Jayaco. We received donations from donors who reside in the United States as well as community members from Bonao, Dominican Republic.
A mother from the community shared with us that with both donations it relieved her of stress of having to buy groceries for her family, but also she was immensely grateful for the clothes that she was gifted for her son because he was growing out of his old clothes and the family is having a difficult time financially at the moment. About 6 women from the community agreed to share their experience with volunteering for Centro Bonilla through a short video, and have also expressed their immense gratitude of being a part of the Centro Bonilla's community and to be able to give back to their community.
To check out some of the videos go to our instagram page: @centrobonilla and we are working on posting these videos on our website as well.
We are currently working on collecting donations for this years donations of clothes, alongside with collecting toys as well. We have a scheduled clothes and toys drive in Boston, MA in collaboration with another nonprofit in MA, Time Of Butterflies. This will take place in person on Saturday March 29th at 12pm and our goal is to collect between 50-100 clothes items and 50-100 toys. We are very grateful for the continuous support from our communtiies in the Dominican Republic and in the United States as well.
