Project Tres' Report - Thanks for Helping!

By Carla Maria de Souza Barbosa | Founder

Hello dear supporter,

I would like to start thanking you for the contribution you have made to us this year. To count on the support from people like you, is what has taken us to where we are right now.

Since March 2020, Project Tres has been facing many challenges. In March 2020, we had some of our team members from Brazil and Germany united in India, to work together with the women over there towards structuring our production and business activities. Our touristic activities completely held and managed by the women in Goa were at their peak, and we couldn’t be happier and more excited about the year to come.

Covid-19 hit us as well as the whole world, and we had to give a couple of steps back in order to simply continue our activities, to make sure we could provide all our team members in India and Kenya with at least the basics, throughout this pandemic. It was important to maintain both centers open and running, since they are a safe place for all the women and children in both countries when they experience a situation of vulnerability, abuse or violence.

It is September 2021, we have survived, but our challenges are still here.

Besides the need of receiving social aid for food, rent, utilities, water and medicine, the most critical aspect which started to be affected in our team members was their mental health. We realized they were going through a very beautiful pace of personal and professional confidence and development, and from one day to the next, they had to rely again on donations.

As a way of making sure they didn’t go back to where we started, we decided to put 2 programs in place: a garden project in Goa India, in partnership with Kintsugi led by Harshita Srivastava, where 6 women managed to have their own gardens and grow their food and vegetables for the first time in their lives. The gardens were implemented in March 2021, and currently with the monsoons, some of them aren’t at their prime, but the activity has been very positive for their relationship with nature, as well as a therapeutic activity.

The second program is a mental health program taking place in both countries (India and Kenya). In the first one, we have partnered with Sangath Organization, a local initiative in Goa, where they will be providing individual therapy sessions to 2 of our leaders in Goa - Rupa and Farida - every fortnight, and group sessions to the 18 members of Project Tres in Goa twice a month. The sessions are scheduled to start in August 2021, in Sangath’s HQ and Project Tres Center in Anjuna, Goa. In Kenya, our partnership is with our long term partners Hai Africa. Therapy session will be held by Crossway Psychological and Psychometrics Institute in Nairobi. The work will consist of two sessions per month of individual therapy sessions with our local leader - Linda -, and of group therapy sessions for all the 13 women in our project every two weeks, focused on topics such as motherhood and conflict management, in Kabiria, Nairobi.

We have received the total amount of $85.00 (72,00 EUR) that was able to cover chai and snack for women working at our Kenyan and Indian center for two weeks.

For the upcoming final months of 2021, we have started the therapy sessions, performing them until January 2022, when by the end of those months an Impact Evaluation survey will be applied to keep track of the participants' development. Regarding the garden project, we are scheduling a new visit from Harshita between October and November, aiming to check the gardens, further encourage the women to continue them and analysing what have been their challenges and what needs to be changed.

Once again, thank you very much for trusting the work we do and for effectively contributing to provide better opportunities for women in India and Kenya,

Best regards,

Carla.
