Investing in education today

By Julia Matthew | Managing Director

Dear Patron,

Education is a powerful tool in the fight against poverty, offering individuals the means to break free from its cycle and build a brighter future. In India, the education system faces significant challenges in effectively reaching and educating the rural population. Even when children attend schools, they may struggle with basic literacy and numeracy skills, highlighting the shortcomings in rural education.

The relationship between poverty and education is complex, but we know that education helps people make healthier and smarter decisions about their children, their livelihoods and the way they live. Education stands as a beacon of hope, offering a pathway for individuals to overcome the challenges of poverty and build a better future for themselves and their communities.

We at El Shaddai aim to bridge the gap in Education by providing Non-formal schools and slum education to underprivileged communities. If children are educated it will be the greatest gift that they receive as it will always be with them. We educate 950 + children every day through our slum schooling. To date, we have educated 656,462 children. These children have changed their futures into a better one and we could achieve all this with the help of kind-hearted and generous people like you; for this, we are truly grateful.

We have a story of two little girls who lived on the streets Richa and Reena (names changed). They have no whereabouts about their family. They used to beg for alms to make a living. These children had no necessities at all. They struggled to make ends meet, and education was a luxury they couldn't afford. They lived in a makeshift house with a torn old bed sheet cover. One day as our team was distributing tarpaulin sheets to people, they came across these two little girls huddled together in a corner trying to dodge the heavy rainfall.

They were immediately taken to one of our Homes and showered with a lot of care, warm food, clean clothing and enrolled at our Shanti Niketan School. These two little girls broke free from the cycles of poverty. They completed their schooling and are presently doing their further studies to become a financial consultant and a Human Resource Developer.

We wish these two girls all the very best in achieving their dreams and changing their lives for the better. Many such children need our help and it’s only with your support we can achieve this.

We express our gratitude to you and look forward to your continued support.

Thanking you

Sincerely

El Shaddai family
