Great Changes in the P&E Department!

“Don’t go through life, grow through life.” - Eric Butterworth

The Prevention and Education Department at Fair Haven has seen some huge changes during the last few months!  We have had some crucial staff changes, with Jenna Turner moving from the role of school advocate to prevention & education coordinator, and Grace Steorts fulfilling the empty school advocate position.

Our P&E Department is working on these transitions after our previous coordinator Rachael McConnell had her last day with Fair Haven on March 10th.  Rachael was an amazing asset to our team and will greatly missed; her work for the department was unmatched and truly showed her passion for prevention education!  We wish Rachael the best luck on her future endeavors, especially the completion of her Master's degree!

Since the start of the school year, Fair Haven's Prevention and Education Department has been busy presenting crucial child sexual abuse prevention education in schools all over Northwest Indiana.  Currently, we implement four programs- "Think First & Stay Safe," "Teen Safety Matters," "What Would I Do?," and "Teen Lures Prevention." Our presentation calendar for the remainder of the school year is completely booked, and more schools reach out every day invite us to speak!  The prevention department has had a very sucessful presentation season and we could not be happier!  Stay tuned to see what's next!

The P&E Team hopes to present to many more students in the 2023-24 school year, and we anticipate that the addition of Grace to our team will help achieve this goal!  We also want to recognize Tami as our go-to Think First & Stay Safe facilitator; she is great with the elementary aged-students and has helped Grace and Jenna tremendously in their new roles!

As preventionists, Tami, Grace, and Jenna pride themselves on implementing crucial sexual abuse prevention education for as many students as possible.  Through hard work and donations from supporters like you, Fair Haven RCC can offer schools the materials to ensure each student receives resources for empowerment and support.  Investing in our youth will guarantee that we will build a safer and kinder future for all.

The Monique Burr Foundation states that 95% of abuse can be prevented through different forms of prevention education...this is huge! Fair Haven has different age-appropriate curriculums that we utilize in schools, all of which center around the concept of empowerment.  For more information on why Fair Haven and other organizations are investing in prevention efforts, check out the link below to visit our Fair Haven website.

In collaboration with IPATH (Indiana Protection of Abused and Trafficked Humans Taskforce), Fair Haven's P&E Department will be hosting a "What Would I Do" certified facilitator training on Apri 28th from 9am-12pm.  This training is open to the public and allows community members and youth-serving agencies the opportunity to learn and become a certified facilitator of the WWID curriculum.  For more information on WWID, you can visit icesaht.org.

April is both National Child Abuse Prevention Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  Fair Haven will be posting plenty of content, so make sure to check out our socials to get Prevention & Education facts, resources, and more!  You can follow us on Facebook and Instagram at "Fair Haven Center."

Thank you for your interest in Fair Haven!  If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to Jenna Turner, Prevention & Education Coordinator at jenna.turner@fairhavenrcc.org.
