At Rachel House, our mission centers on providing home-based palliative care for children facing serious illnesses like cancer and HIV. What sets us apart is our deep, commitment to addressing not only the medical needs of these children but also nurturing their emotional and psychological well-being. This vital work could not be accomplished without the selfless dedication of our volunteers, who bring both their skills and their hearts to support our little heroes and their families.
Capturing Moments: Gabriel Luengas
Volunteers like Gabriel Luengas, a talented photographer, have been instrumental in capturing the essence of Rachel House’s work. Through Gabriel's camera lens, the daily struggles and moments of hope come to life and are immortalized. His photographs convey the resilience of the children, the quiet strength of the parents, and the compassion of our medical team. Each image tells a story: a child’s soft smile despite their illness, a nurse’s gentle offering comfort, and a parent’s determined gaze filled with hope as they fight alongside their child.
Documenting Lives: Gembong Nusantara
Alongside Gabriel is Gembong Nusantara, a videographer whose ongoing documentary project beautifully encapsulates the lived experiences of the children and families Rachel House serves. Gembong’s work is more than just a film, it is a window into the lives of these brave little warriors. His videos showcase courage in the face of unimaginable challenges, and the unwavering love that surrounds them. Through Gembong’s lens, viewers witness stories of hardship intertwined with incredible resilience and strength.
Enhancing Care: Dr Tan Yew Seng
We are also fortunate to have medical experts who generously share their expertise and knowledge to enhance the care we provide. Dr. Tan Yew Seng, a renowned palliative care physician, volunteers his time to train our team, ensuring we have the latest skills and knowledge in palliative care. His guidance empowers Rachel House to expand its reach, offering hope and dignity to more children and families during life’s most difficult moments.
A Vital Support System
These volunteers — photographers, videographers, and medical experts — form a vital support system that extends far beyond just the care provided to the children. They are integral to our mission and part of the broader effort to ensure that the work of Rachel House is documented, lives celebrated, and knowledge shared with the world. Their contributions help to shine a light on the resilience of our children, the dedication of our team, and the profound impact of compassionate palliative care.
The stories captured by our volunteers are not just images or footage; they are a testament to the love, resilience, and hope that define Rachel House. Through their eyes and efforts, we are able to share the message of compassion and the importance of palliative care with a wider audience, reminding us all of the power of kindness and the difference it can make in the lives of those who need it most.
