A few updates from our latest trip to Nepal

By Julia Krepska | Director

It was great to spend quite a bit of time with our boys at the children's home and children at the child helpline. We ensured we spent some good quality time with all the children and had a few fun outings with them. The summer has just started and it is incredibly hot so we tried our outings later in the afternoon so that we wouldn't melt straightaway.

All the children seem really happy and that is the main thing that keeps us going. They have a lot of activities at the Helpline and they all love them - dancing, drawing, crafts. Most of the children there have never been to school so they are learning their first letters, numbers or even how to hold a pen. But we can see an incredible progress in them and many are starting regular school from this month.

I think the most memorable trip was to a newly opened huge shopping centre, something that has never been seen in this part of Nepal. The children (and adults from neighbouring villages) were mostly shocked by an escalator - they have never seen one before. So it took good 10 minutes for us all to get to the 3rd floor - many people were scared to get onto the escalator and then some younger children were very excited and were running up the stairs in groups. It wasn't always very safe with all the crowds around us so we just took normal stairs on our way down - much quicker! The shopping centre had the whole floor dedicated to roller skating and one ot children's play areas - our children were just amazed by it all so we stayed there for a very long time enjoying bouncy castles, slides and other games.

A couple of boys from the helpline have been recently moved to our children's home as they have no families. Now they have started attending school and are doing really well. We now send the boys to two schools and have a plan to move all by next year to just one, once they receive extra classes and are ready for the new school. We've recently had their end of year test results and we are so proud - they all passed!

We will keep you all updated on their progress.

As always - thank you so much for all the support!!
