This quarter is typically a quieter one in terms of the school level activities, as this is the time of the year for assessments and also summer vacation.
It was heartening to note that the Government of AP and Telangana have taken note of the importance of children being allowed to take books home and accordingly instructed the schools to lend books to children. They have asked the teachers to give 3-4 books to each child which they can exchange with each other during the vacations. We at BREAD have been advocating this for the last several years and we feel vindicated by the position taken by the GoAP and GoT.
We have also established two prototype libraries - one in Vijayawada and another in Hyderabad. Over a period of time we will accumulate here all the books donated by BREAD society to the school libraries. This will act a repository of books given by BREAD and a useful source for scholars, donors, well wishers and interested researchers to see the type of books we are distributing and also provide feedback on the same.
