Support for families during COVID closure

By Tim Holmes | Fundraising Coordinator

Although many core hospital services have remained open during the COVID peak in Haiti, the respite home was one that we had no choice but to temporarily close. Social distancing while looking after children with disabilities is simply not possible so it was best for children to stay with their families.

However, we know that life for many of our vulnerable 'Maison' families is tough at the best of times, let alone during the COVID crisis. So we were delighted to be able to deliver emergency food rations to many of the families in partnership with Handicap International. This simple offering makes a huge difference to many vulnerable families. We also maintained contact and support through home visits throughout to help identify those in the greatest need.

Thankfully with COVID numbers now fairly low in Haiti, we've been able to re-open the Maison for 3 days a week allowing the children and their to access some the support they so desperately need.

Thank you so much for supporting the Maison respite home allowing us to maintain some vital support for vulnerable families during the COVID crisis.
