An update on your donation to the Chile Wildfire Relief Fund

By Victoria Mendez | Disaster Response Senior Associate

Thank you—we cannot express our gratitude enough. The Chile wildfires are one of the country's most catastrophic disasters in recent history, fueled by record-high temperatures and the worst drought in over a thousand years. As communities begin their road to recovery, your contributions have supported locally based organizations at the forefront of the response, helping distribute essential food supplies, emergency aid, and mental health support directly to those in greatest need.

With your support, the Chile Wildfire Relief Fund has powered four grants to two high-impact and community-led Chilean nonprofit organizations at the forefront of this crisis.

Here is a description of some of the critical work you’ve supported:

  • Fundacion Desafio Levantemos Chile, based in Santiago, has a long history of supporting communities during and after disasters. In the aftermath of the wildfires, they quickly mobilized to provide essential supplies and nearly 20,000 liters of water to affected individuals. A key part of their mission has been to restore critical community facilities, including the Villa Independencia School. Beyond physical repairs, they offer mental health support and help ensure access to emergency services and aid.
  • Fundacion de Beneficencia Hogar de Cristo has supported the community by mobilizing teams to remove debris and assess structural damage, while also providing habitability kits. These kits ensure that emergency shelters are equipped with essential amenities such as bedding, hygiene supplies, and basic cooking equipment, helping to meet the immediate needs of those affected by the crisis.

This fund is no longer accepting donations, and this will be the last fund report of this kind from our team. Thank you for your donation and your solidarity that enables GlobalGiving to be a trusted partner to local nonprofits in disaster-affected communities. You can stay connected with our work through Instagram, Facebook, and our Learn Library, where we regularly share stories about the incredible impact of the powerful GlobalGiving community.

With immense gratitude,

Victoria + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
