THIRD TERM REPORT

By Lameck Mbiriyaza Chirwa | Project officer

Hello Mulibwani?

I hope you are doing fine. I write to give you a brief report of the just ended school term which is also the end this academic year. The report is just a summary of what we have been doing but more news will be in our latest newsletter which is to come out on the 15th this month of August so be on the look out.

As a continuation of our mission which is to support rural schools in Malawi, we at BFM continued to support schools with different activities within our programs that we have during this third term. This term alone we managed to train 94 girls with sewing skills  in 5 different schools namely Minga, Malikha, Kalumba, Chiwamba and Mseche Community Secondary school.  We also managed to do our Girl Talk sessions in 2 schools that we visited. We believe that Girl talks are invaluable platforms for addressing critical issues such as mental health, menstrual hygiene and goal setting. Discussions provide a safe space for young girls to share experiences, gain insights and find support. Sharing personal stories do foster a sense of community ad remind girls that they are not alone in their struggles .Through girl talks, girls learn about Coping mechanisms, recognize the importance of seeking professional help when needed, warning signs, and understand discussions provide a safe space for young women to share experiences, gain insights, and find support that they need.

We also continued to support schools with learning materials and text books. As you are aware that many schools in our country do not have enough teaching and learning materials and as a way of helping in reducing this problem, Building futures in Malawi, under the minor grants programme this term we managed to make donations assorted learning materilas to 5 schools. We donated books to the following school, Mkanthama primary school, Kachumbadzi Community Day Secondary School, Mseche Community Day secondary school, Chiwamba Community Day Secondary school and Chowo Community Day Secondary School. We also donated stationary to KAPS National Library and Lilongwe community national library branch. We also partnered with Mukuru, a financial service company to make donations of different stationery items to Minga Secondary School.

The donation of teaching and learning materials is the enhancement of educational quality. Schools in economically disadvantaged areas often lack basic resources such textbooks, stationary and other teaching and learning resources. The donating of these materials will ensure that students have access to necessary tools for effective learning. This access will help in improving students’ understanding of subjects, foster creativity and encourage engagement in the classroom.

We also continued to support needy students through our Students Support program, currently we have 40 students on this scheme. This term 12 students wrote their final secondary school exams meaning that they have finished their secondary education and planning to go to College/University next year. These 12 students have been supported by us since they started their secondary school education and now they have been able to finish while some of their friends dropped out because of lack of school fees and other reasons so we are very grateful for the donations that you make towards our organization towards this program because it is changing a lot of young people’s lives.

Lastly I just want to say thank you for the continued support that you give to our organization. Everything that I have said and have been done here couldn’t have been possible if you didn’t take part in making your generous donations and prayers, God should continue to bless you in everything that you do. As we are starting a new term in September, I believe that you will continue to support so that we can continue to reach out to more young people and to help the delivery of better education for all in Malawi.
