Our Women Who Run The Project
Dear Friends,
Did you know that Chikumbuso is more than a school?
Did you know that we are more than just 500 students in class and 100+ in college?
In the past 18 years we have grown considerably and now we are educating and changing the lives of over 600 students who would never otherwise gone to school. We have fed them and clothed them, now many are out in the workforce.
Yet we also do more!
- We house 18 girls in a Safe Haven, caring for their every need.
- We have a youth micro enterprise project where tailoring skills are taught and a workshop brings in a livelihood. Chikumbuso has trained over 300 youth and single moms.
- We have a widows micro enterprise where beautiful bags and other items are crocheted by these women who have become professionals.
- Chikumbuso supports and feeds 18 grandmothers in their homes and sends caregivers to watch over them.
And you are a part of all of this! Thank you for your regular support and faithfulness to our projects.

New Classroom Desks

It feels like a new year now that we are back at school full time. Our classes are full but not brimming, our construction is finished and beautiful. We have new porches outside the classrooms and benches for sitting on. Our library and study room are complete and after this last school break the students are coming back to new classrooms full of brand new desks!
We have reorganized our grade levels after so many students missing out due to Covid. This means our students in seventh grade will be repeating again next year and although some students are not thrilled with the idea we prefer to send them on to high school with as much knowledge as possible.
We want to thank each and everyone of you for your gifts and support to our classrooms. Although financially making all these repairs has been a stretch to our budget we have been able to complete most every one of our projects.

One more week...

The Chikumbuso Community School is looking forward to the Zambian schools opening next week the 24th of January. Due to the Covid surge this is two weeks later than scheduled so we are excited to have the students back with us and in class.
The students are returning to find a new library as well as a shelter for extra classes and a place to hang out and eat their lunch. We are so pleased to have had the support of friends and Rotary groups as we took on the challenge of rejuvenating our Center. Thank you so much!
Mercy, our fourth grade teacher, has been missing her students over the past two months . She is happy that school is opening. "Our students have missed a lot scholastically and I miss being with the students. I miss watching how each one learns and the joy the students feel after accomplishing a difficult task!"
Chikumbuso is looking forward to a great year ahead. Thank you for being a part of our community.
