Report 30: Clean Water Restoring Dignity and Opportunity in Tororo District

Access to clean and safe water is about much more than meeting a basic human need—it is about restoring dignity, creating opportunities, and building healthier communities. During this reporting period, our project continued to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable families across rural communities in Tororo District, Eastern Uganda.

For many years, households depended on unsafe water sources such as ponds, open wells, and seasonal streams. These sources often became contaminated, exposing families to waterborne diseases and forcing women and children to spend hours each day collecting water. This burden affected school attendance, household productivity, and overall well-being.

Today, communities are experiencing positive change as access to safe water improves. Families report spending less time searching for water and more time focusing on education, farming, and income-generating activities. Children are attending school more consistently, while women have greater opportunities to participate in community development and support their households economically.

Health workers have also observed improvements in hygiene practices and a reduction in preventable illnesses associated with unsafe water. Families are using clean water for drinking, cooking, handwashing, and maintaining cleaner household environments. These changes are contributing to healthier and more productive communities.

Community water committees continue to demonstrate strong leadership by overseeing water facilities, promoting responsible use, and encouraging regular maintenance. Their commitment helps ensure that water systems remain functional and sustainable for future generations.

The impact of clean water extends beyond individual households. It strengthens communities, improves public health, supports education, and creates a foundation for long-term development. As we celebrate the progress achieved, we recognize that many families still need support to access safe and reliable water.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all donors and supporters whose generosity continues to transform lives. Your contributions are helping build a future where every family in Tororo District can enjoy the health, dignity, and opportunities that come with access to clean and safe water. Together, we are creating lasting change and bringing hope to communities that need it most.
