Helping Nepal with solar power

By Maisie Mayne | Fundraising intern

To our donators,

The Solar Energy for Community Resilience in Nepal project has been making steady progress in its mission to improve the lives of 2,750 people in Surkhet District. By providing access to renewable energy, we aim to enhance healthcare, flood safety, and economic opportunities for these remote communities. Over the past five years, we have worked with local partners to implement solar energy solutions that promote self-sufficiency and resilience against climate change.

Project Updates

1. Solar Energy Implementation - We have successfully installed solar panels in key locations, including community centers and healthcare facilities. The introduction of solar-powered water pumps has improved access to clean water, reducing dependency on unreliable sources.

2. Community Training and Engagement - Several training sessions have been conducted to educate community members on solar panel maintenance and sustainable energy practices.Local technicians have been trained to ensure long-term functionality and upkeep of the installed systems.

3. Impact on Healthcare and Livelihoods - The availability of electricity in healthcare centers has allowed for better medical services, particularly for emergency care and maternal health.Small enterprises, such as local shops and agricultural businesses, have benefited from improved energy access, leading to increased economic stability.

4. Flood Resilience and Climate Adaptation - Solar-powered flood early warning systems have been introduced to help communities prepare for and mitigate the impact of natural disasters. Households now have access to sustainable energy solutions, reducing reliance on traditional, environmentally harmful energy sources.

By continuing to expand access to solar energy, we aim to further enhance the self-reliance of these communities. Our long-term goal remains to provide sustainable water supplies, empower local entrepreneurs, and ensure that no family is left without essential resources. With additional support, we hope to extend this initiative to more villages, helping build a cleaner, more resilient future for Nepal's rural communities.

We are incredibly grateful to our donors and partners who have made this progress possible. However, more support is needed to fully achieve our goals. As we move forward, we aim to expand solar infrastructure, provide more training programs, and ensure that these communities can thrive independently for generations to come.

Thank you for being part of this journey towards sustainability and resilience in Nepal!
