OVERVIEW
The "Clean Water for 100 Communities in Ghana" initiative, spearheaded by the Young Visionary Leaders, is a fundraising effort aimed at providing clean drinking water to underprivileged areas in Ghana. This project focuses on constructing and donating mechanized boreholes to marginalized communities in the Northern, Eastern, and Western regions of Ghana. By doing so, it aims to supply clean drinking water to 900,000 individuals, including children, women, and people with disabilities who currently lack access to this necessity. These communities face numerous challenges, such as inadequate healthcare facilities and economic hardships. Access to clean and affordable water is their primary infrastructural need, as it is a fundamental factor contributing to other significant issues like poverty, gender inequality, and education and health problems. Addressing the water crisis can therefore have a profound impact on improving overall living conditions and tackling the root causes of these broader issues.
INTERVENTION
Given the current situation, the Young Visionary Leaders Ghana, with the support of our corporate and individual donors, is constructing a mechanized borehole for the community of Achiaman in the southern part of Ghana. This project is expected to be completed in the first week of July. Additionally, we are educating school children on water management practices both at home and at school. This initiative aims to help protect water sources and prevent the mismanagement of this vital resource.
BENEFICIARY
Over three thousand beneficiaries, including children, young people, women, the elderly, and people with disabilities, will benefit from this project once it is completed in July.
CAMPAIGN ACTIVITIES
As we strive to ensure that 900,000 of our target beneficiaries have access to clean water, we are actively continuing our fundraising campaign for the "Clean Water for 100 Communities in Ghana" initiative through our social media platforms. We also participated in the recently concluded GlobalGiving Little By Little donation matching campaign, held from April 8th to April 12th. We are leveraging Giving Tuesdays to raise awareness about the project through our various social media platforms. We continue to identify communities and schools in urgent need of clean water. Our goal is to provide these areas with clean drinking water as soon as we secure the necessary funding. This objective aligns with our mission to ensure that 100 communities receive access to clean water.
CHALLENGES
The Clean Water for 100 Communities in Ghana initiative aims to raise $1 million to provide clean drinking water to these communities and schools. However, to date, we have raised a total of $195 from four one-time individual donors. Despite our efforts in the recent Little by Little matching campaign, we have not yet been able to secure adequate funds for our cause.
ACTIONABLE MEASURES
The Young Visionary Leaders Ghana team is implementing measures to ensure a successful fundraising campaign for the Clean Water for 100 Communities in Ghana project, which is championed weekly by our social media team. These measures aim to increase donations by expanding our donor base. By leveraging the GlobalGiving Little by Little campaign and Giving Tuesday awareness, we are confident of achieving significant results in the future.
CONCLUSION
We acknowledge the tremendous support of our corporate and individual donors throughout this journey. This achievement would not have been possible without your generosity, and we deeply appreciate your kind gestures.
