Clean Water for Butonda, Bukandula and Kasaala
![]()
Dear Donors
1. Introduction
Karitas Relief Mission is working towards improving access to clean and safe drinking water for vulnerable families in Butonda, Kasaala and Bukandula villages.
Access to safe water remains a major challenge for many households. Women and children are particularly affected because they carry much of the responsibility for collecting water for their families. Some residents depend on distant and potentially unsafe water sources, exposing their families to preventable waterborne diseases.
2. Community Needs Assessment
Through our engagement with the communities, we have identified the need for reliable and accessible water sources. Families need clean water for drinking, cooking, washing, sanitation and other daily activities.
The lack of nearby water sources also affects children's education, as some spend valuable time helping their families search for water instead of attending school or concentrating on their studies.
3. Proposed Project Activities
To address these challenges, Karitas Relief Mission is proposing the drilling and installation of three boreholes, with one borehole in each village:
- Butonda Village – One borehole with pump installation.
- Bukandula Village – One borehole with pump installation.
- Kasaala Village – One borehole with pump installation.
The proposed intervention includes geological surveys, borehole drilling, pumping systems, reporting and installation of pumps and accessories.
4. Expected Benefits
The project is expected to:
- Improve access to clean and safe drinking water.
- Reduce exposure to waterborne diseases.
- Reduce the distance women and children travel to collect water.
- Improve hygiene and sanitation among households.
- Give children more time for education.
- Improve the general health and well-being of rural families.
5. Financial Requirements
The estimated budget for drilling and installing the three boreholes is USD 98,670.
This represents an estimated cost of USD 32,890 for each village.
Karitas Relief Mission is seeking support from generous donors and development partners to make this important intervention possible.
6. Challenges
The main challenge is the limited financial capacity to establish reliable water infrastructure in all three communities. The cost of geological surveys, drilling equipment, pumps and installation makes it difficult for the communities to undertake this project independently.
7. Conclusion and Appeal for Support
Clean water is essential for human dignity, good health and community development. Through this project, Karitas Relief Mission hopes to bring lasting change to families in Butonda, Kasaala and Bukandula.
We appeal to our generous friends, donors and development partners to join us in making clean water accessible to these communities.
Your support will help protect children, empower families and give entire communities hope for a healthier future.
Karitas Relief Mission
Together, we can bring clean water closer to the people who need it most.
